WhatsApp Status

WhatsApp approached BUCK to create a series of videos that would live within the WhatsApp app itself. These videos break down the wide range of features available to WhatsApp users—many of which they might not even know exist. The goal was to make content that was not only informative but also genuinely enjoyable to watch. To bring this to life, we combined illustrated scenes and characters, stylized UI elements, and energetic music to create fun, engaging tutorials that help users get the most out of the app. It was an incredibly fun project to lead as head of the animation team.

Once the project wrapped, we took a moment to look back at everything we had created—and it was a lot. The Status project had been running for over a year by that point. I joined about five months in and had the opportunity to see it through to the end. We decided it deserved a highlight video. In addition to the six core spots, we created a sizzle reel showcasing all of the work produced for Status. The Meat & Potatoes
Now onto the actual spots we created! Each one highlights a specific tool or set of tools available to WhatsApp users. As the series progressed, the client became increasingly enthusiastic about the illustrations, and by the end, we had truly refined the visual style.
